Poster News: 6/27/15

A round-up of news based on the posters hanging around the city.

#1, #2, and #3: Minions!

With a their own spin-off movie coming out July 10, the minions have been showcased around LA now for weeks, and no, seeing them daily hanging from fences never gets old. Official website, Twitter, and Instagram for all your minion fixes.

#4: Aziz Ansari’s new book

Aziz Ansari is one of the funniest comics I know, and his name being in the cast of a film or TV show is usually reason enough for me to watch it. And apparently now, he has a book. Titled “Modern Romance,” it seems like Ansari has taken a quick break from being the strictly comic actor he’s become and become a less strict comic writer who pairs with a real-life sociologist and does research on love in the 21st century. Amazon’s initial reaction is:

“A hilarious, thoughtful, and in-depth exploration of the pleasures and perils of modern romance from one of this generation’s sharpest comedic voices.”

Looks like I’m adding another book to my never-ending reading list! Available on Amazon (and probably wherever else you buy books).

#5: #gudetama

This one, I just have no clue. I had to Google it, and have discovered the Gudetama is a character created by Sanrio (the same people who brought us Hello Kitty!). Gude is the Japanese word for ‘someone with no energy or strength’ and tama is short for the word tamago, or egg, in Japanese. And what does that make? An egg, with no energy. As far as I can tell, Gudetama is just a highly unmotivated egg, who knows his life ultimatum is to be eaten. All of this is explained on his Twitter, which is definitely worth the translation into English. I just… Don’t know.

Sort of interested in this lifeless egg character. Also congrats on getting some stuff up on the site. I’m looking forward to getting random insights into my peers lives in L.A.

And we’re interested in your life in Austin too! Yeah that egg thing is super random, when I first saw it I thought it was some weird like anti-abortion movement or something but then it was just a cartoon egg… So yeah, I’m not really sure what’s going with it but they’re funny to see like next to all the movie and TV posters up around town ha ha ha
