I first heard isle royale’s “Undertow” in late July. I gushed and gushed about it, about Minnesota, about home. And still today, whenever I need a reminder of who I am, where I come from, and how much my life has changed in the last year, I lay down, close my eyes, and turn it on, and instantly I am taken back.
I’m sitting here with you all today though to announce something really, really important. I’m still going to do everything I mentioned above, except, instead of closing my eyes, I’m going to turn on the music video. The Sundaze would like to cordially welcome isle royale to the league of music video musicians with the premiere of their debut video for “Undertow.”
The video itself maintains all the simplicity and beauty of the song. It isn’t over-the-top and outrageous, and it’s actually found footage from Graeme Ferguson (IMAX co-founder) of swooping and diving and turning and canoeing all around the shores of northern Lake Superior. The cinematography echoes perfectly the flowy dreamwave the song presents and having the stunning visual to accompany the music is a prime setup. For people who have never experienced the upper-Midwest in the summer, the footage emotes precisely the natural beauty and serenity and adventure of sticky hot summers on the lake.
“Undertow” is isle royale’s debut song and music video. They are based in the Midwest and have self-produced their music and video. We look forward to seeing what’s next from them. isle royale “Undertow”
