CHICAGO (October 31, 2016) – A collective of Chicago actors, writers, rappers and improvisers announced on Friday that they are staging a public reading of the first act of their new work, DUNDEE: A HIP-HOPERA, on Sunday, November 6, at 7:30 PM at Under the Gun Theater (965 W. Newport). In conjunction with the staged reading, the group has debuted a music video and launched a Kickstarter campaign with a fundraising goal of $5000.
DUNDEE: A HIP-HOPERA, opening spring 2017, tracks down seven graduates of Dundee Hills Gifted School for the Arts after they receive an invitation to their 10-year college reunion. Upon their arrival, however, they quickly realize they were brought together under mysterious and possibly sinister circumstances. DUNDEE: A HIP-HOPERA explores the themes of sacrifice, success, ambition and authenticity as the characters are stripped to their cores and forced to face exactly who they are.
A music video of the work’s opening song, directed by Ty Gotham (director of Dwayne Reed’s “Welcome to the 4th Grade”), can be found on the project’s Kickstarter page. The creators of DUNDEE: A HIP-HOPERA have set a goal of $5000 ending on Monday, November 14 to fund theater rentals, props and costumes, musical direction and marketing costs.
